why did they consider that the Black Panther Party was a big threat?

I mean, come on now? The KKK was a even bigger threat and they only point out the Black Panthers? Why was that? Was it because J. Edgar Hoover hated them?

Because the Black Panther Party of the time would not have furthered the interests of the government at the time. You are right that it makes no sense. They were a much smaller group, and were not a racial hate group. In the late 60's and early 70's, they were trying to empower black people trapped in poverty in the inner cities of California. They tried to start daycare centers, open job training offices, and other positive things. Some of their activity was anti-government, but considering how things were at that time, it is hardly surprising. Yet, J. Edgar Hoover considered them Public Enemy #1.

The only logical explanation is that they did not want any group mobilizing and empowering black people. Simple as that. Within a short time, most members were pretty much wiped out. While KKK groups are allowed to march and continue to exist and grow in numbers, and held alot of power back then, especially in small towns in the South. Yet they are protected under the "free speech". It doesn't add up, and using logic you will see the injustice.
