Can i change visa from type F to type Z while staying in china?

will i have to go out of mainland china and then apply?? or is it posable to apply then go out when my current visa expires and the come in on visa type z???

There is no affordable way to do this. Chinese visa agents charge anywhere from $600 - 900 dollars for their service knowing that a trip to Hong Kong or return to the USA is the more expensive option. They price their services below those costs.

If you dont want to return to the USA, send your passport to a relative to process with the Chinese consulate, or if they dont live near a consulate, then use a visa service company like http://pandavisa.com their international service is much less expensive than any Chinese company, and you will have the security of getting your visa in the Chinese consulate in the USA.

The caveat to this, is that you must get your z visa at least 15 days BEFORE your current visa is set to expire, otherwise, exit China, then re-enter to get a fresh stamp.. Then send them your passport for processing.
