How to ask mum for tampons instead of pads?

I started my period last year and have been using pads ever since. I dont like using them, they feel damp and uncomfortable. They are also real messy and I think they are a pain to use. Tampons seem so easier and Ive read peoples opinions on them.

How do I ask my mum I want to try tampons?
Which ones should I go for?
I cant borrow my mums they are really thick and I think I need thin ones which she doesnt have. I havent any more female family members in my country they live in another country.

I cant get them myself either

Say "Mum, I would like to try using tampons now, could you buy some for me?"
She probably uses them, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Don't use hers though, they're probably too large. Start with smaller ones with applicators... At the beginning it might be weird, but after a while, you get used to it. I'm 18, I've been using tampons for 4 yrs, and I don't even notice them up there anymore. Take the tampon out after 5 or 6 hours. Be careful when you take it out, that part can hurt. The thing to do is start by tugging it a bit horizontally, that helps. When you feel more comfortable or start having sex, try the normal size. Women who've given birth use larger ones usually which aren't comfortable for younger girls.
