Looking to buy new drumsticks. What do you recommend?

Hi! Well I'm looking for some new drum sticks preferable light ones. Right now I'm drumming with Vic Firth's American Classic 5A's Cause a teacher recommended them for me when I was a beginner. I'm kinda interested in the Vic Grip one's but what do ya'll recommend? and if you could send me link or something?
OH! and which is better Plastic or wooden tips?

well there are tons of things that go into choosing a stick. length, width, tip, and taper are your general options.
length: obviously the longer the stick, the heavier it will be and the more power you can get from it. the number (5b, 7a, etc) denotes the length. the higher the number, the shorter the stick generally is. so you might want to stick with 5s if you like the length, or if you want something shorter, try 7s.

width: also obviously. thicker equals louder. if you want something lighter, go with As. the higher the letter, the wider the stick. so a B would be heavier than an A. The A is the lightest stick, so you may want to stay with that size.

tip: well there are 2 materials, nylon and wood. which one you choose is up to you. people say nylon lasts longer, but i personally have seen not a big difference. i prefer wood due to the clearer sound it gives, but like i said, personal perference. there are also different stick shapes. the round ones give more difinition, while the flatter ones are louder with less difinition.

taper: lots of variations here but it doesnt really matter for a beginning drummer.

so based on that info, i would say youre right around where you need to be: a 5A would be perfect for you. although if you want something lighter, then i would maybe try a 7A with a rounded nylon tip.
