Jazz Drum question on purchasing my first jazz kit!?

So, i've been a hardcore/metal drummer for as long as i have been playing drums and now i am very interested in purchasing a jazz drum set and learning some jazz technique cause i have been jamming with a stand up bassist recently and i really dig the whole concept of jazz drumming but it doesnt compare to playing on a jazz set. Whenever i try to play jazz on my drum set it doesnt work out, but when i play on the bassist's DW jazz set, i can play some decent jazz.

i dont wanna spend that much money on a jazz set cause im primarily not gonna use it except when i jam with jazz players or get an urge to play jazz by myself. but i want the set to be a worthy investment... so something better than CB, groove percussion, sound percussion, or any entry level kit but less expensive than a gretsch usa, or dw collector/jazz.

can i get some suggestions?
