Why does having dreams of being an actor or singer send alarm bells of to most people who live in L.A?

Is it because you think they do not have money to pay for rent and the cost of living?

Actors are not good when looking for someone for a long-term romantic relationship?

Local Californian people fear that you are using them to get into show biz?

or any other reason? I am just curious as to why it annoys the locals when you say you are here to try your hand at being an actor or singer?

So many people, especially teens & 20 somethings, seem to believe that all they have to do to become a celebrity is to move to California - Los Angeles - Hollywood, and in a week or two they'll become the star of the next hit show. They don't know what all is necessary to become famous, like having a portfolio, a good Business Agent, contacts in the business, etc, etc.

The acting profession is an extremely difficult one to break in to. It's often a matter of who you know that gets you that big break. Directors and Casting Agents don't walk the streets looking for their next star & starlets. They cast from the already established actors & actresses who have a proven track record of being money makers, not from no experienced, no talent, no bodys who walk in off the street. All those people who come here are turned away, and for many are now out of money, and homeless. It happens every day. We're just trying to warn them of what we know for most is the inevitable.

What we try to do is explain to them that it's nice to have a dream, but this one is doomed to failure. Unfortunately most don't listen believing they are that one in a billion that makes it. So they come here by the hundreds every day to pursue a dream.
