Heavy or Light drumsticks for practicing?

I am getting a snare Practice Pad and I am wondering what kind of drum sticks I should get, (heavy & fat or Light and skinny) I'm going to try out for snare in Marching Band, and they use really thick sticks, but I also want to learn to play drum sets, which I would prefer really thin and light drumsticks. I can always get another later but which would help me improve the most before tryouts next year. or a medium weight and thickness?

I would say that you should use the sticks you will play with for practice. So I'd say the heavy stick.
snare drumming is a lot different from playing a Trap drum set, so I'd use what you play a Snare Drum for practice.
For trap drumming unless you are doing jazz...medium to heavy sticks are best for drum set playing, in my opinion.
I liked the 7a stick for regular drum playing. A fairly light stick, but still substantial enough to rock with.
