Help choosing a Snare Drum?

I’m currently deciding mainly between Ludwig and Pork Pie. The forums I use are driving me crazy because they all suggest Ludwig over Pork Pie, but I’ve never played a Black Beauty or Supraphonic before. I’ve only Pork Pie- with whom I instantly fell in love with the store when I gave it a demo. I love the 7x13 Little Squealer, the Patina, and the BOB. I’d like the BOB, or the Squealer most, because ***I’m trying to get a real dry classic rock sound***. I can’t afford the Ludwigs, but if it’s worth saving money for I will do so. From your own, honest personal experience, do you believe the Pork Pies stand up to Ludwig in terms of quality?

In my own personal experience, don't let brands influence you. Go to a local drum shop (or a Guitar Center or something if you don't have anything close to you) and try them out. Bring your drumset if you can call and arrange it. The important thing to realize though, is that there are many many great brands out there, and most of them have a very wide array of products and sounds.

If you like the Pork Pie Snare, that's great, go for it! But don't fall into the traps of the drum snobs: there is quality, there is only preference. If you put two drums next to each other and you like one over the other, does it matter that that one is a different brand or price? It's up to you to determine that
