Is it better for a bass drum to not have any mounted toms?

Does mounting toms on a bass drum affect the bass drums sound??
I would mount toms on stands but its sturdier on a bass drum so idk

I'm almost positive that a majority of the sound from your bass drum comes from the heads.

Since most (if not all?) manufacturers make their bass drums with mounts for rack toms, I'd imagine they can't affect the sound too much. No difference I've ever been able to notice, anyway. If anything, I'd think that NOT having toms in their mounts would have an effect on the sound, seeing as how it would create holes in the drum, thus making ports which somehow (I think) make a difference, albeit a small one.

If there is a difference, it's a minute one that very few will pick up on. The only way I can think to avoid it is by getting a rack system that surrounds the kick drum, (I think that's what they're called, pretty sure the only ones I've seen are made by Gibraltar) that you can mount everything else on, too.
