[women only just a warning lol] How do I deal with TOM when Im about to go to Hawaii!?!?!?
okayy so my family has been putting off to going to hawaii for 3 summers now but finally we booked our tickets and im leaving in august but tom will be here either when Im going there or when Im there. I really dont want to just stand out of the beach and sunbathe. I want to go snorkeling swim in the beach and all these stuff but with tom its going to be very uncomfortable. Ive thought of tampons and instead cups [but ive heard of bad things about that so not really interested in the instead cups] but im worried that tampons are gonna leak. Any alternatives? that is totally safe?
are there like waterproof pads or something like that?
Also just a question out there...
How to women swimmers deal with this?!?! ive always wondered...
not just those pros but even hs girls who swim?
haha thanks guys for the advice!
but one more question..Ive never really
used a tampon before so I dont know
which size to get...^^; do you know how
you could tell which size you are?
The best alternatives are MENSTRUAL CUPS which are bell-shaped cups made from silicone, rubber or thermoplastic elastomer that you insert into your vagina to collect menstrual flow. Cups are folded, inserted and you twist to create a light seal, to remove simply squeeze the bottom and pull out. Women use them because they are far safer and more hygienic than tampons so this means they can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time safely and without any leaking, including from light to heavy flow, overnight, before menstruation and during sports like swimming - they are more convenient and ideal for young women, women with heavy flow and active women. Different brands are; Divacup, Femmecup, Keeper, Ladycup, Lunette, Miacup, UK Mooncup, US Mooncup, Mpower, Yuuki, Green Donna, Fleurcup, MeLuna, and Alicia, all a little different, and can come in in various colours and widths.

For swimming you can actually use pads, but commercial pads like Always or organic pads like Cottons will go soggy in the water and come unstuck so use cloth pads or something similar, you can only use pads with light flow as when wet they can't hold as much, and just hide under a pair of shorts. Cloth pads like Lunapads http://www.lunapads.com won't come unstuck as they are held in place with poppers rather than glued in. You can use period belts like Reddy's http://www.reddyspads.com which are extra-long pads that fasten around your waste so more secure and easier to hide, better still are period panties like Lunapanties from Lunapads, these are underwear with pads built-in so better protection, easier to hide and more comfortable.
I'm not dismissing what you may or may not have heard about softcups (Insteads), but they are perfectly safe, although they can be difficult to use and messy many women can use them without any problems at all. However tampons are by far more harmful and more problimatic as tampons negatively effect your vaginal health by preventing vaginal self-cleaning, absorb vaginal fluids, encourage bacterial growth, and commercial brands contain harmful ingredients, thus why they often cause vaginal infections and are linked with problems such as TSS and menstrual cramps. See http://www.spotsite.org As a result tampons have precautions to follow such as needing to be changed every 4-6 hours, cannot be worn during light flow or overnight, and you are supposed to alternate between tampons and pads, also tampons can leak.
If you do use tampons then you also need to make sure to use the lowest absorbency - if you need to change/if you leak within an hour then you need to change to a higher absorbency, but if you remove tha tampon after 4 hours and it is still white in places then you need to use a lower absorbency or switch to pads. You are best using organic tampons such as Cottons http://www.cottons.com.au as they're 100% organic cotton which means they're softer so easier to insert and more comfortable to use as well as have less fibre loss, also they don't contain additives, chemicals or bleach like other brands which makes them safer so less risk of vaginal infections and TSS. They also expand better so they aren't as likely to leak as commercial brands like Tampax or Li-lets.
Another option is to prevent your period all together, you can use something like Provera to either put off your period or induce it before it's due, this gives your body progesterone to build up uterus lining, then when you stop taking it the drop in progesterone will bring on your period so you can use it over the time when you want to avoid your period then stop taking it to finally bring your period on later. http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/pro1361.htm
There are home methods of inducing your period, so as long as it's been two weeks since your last period it's safe to bring your period on a week early so that you don't have it during your holidays. The best way to do this is to use parsley, which is a mild emmenagogue meaning it relaxes your cervix, but don't use this if you have kidney problems, for parsley tea fill a medium sized pan with water, bring to the boil then remove from heat to add two handfulls of fresh chopped parsley. Cover and let steep for 20-30 minutes, never boil herbs or they loose potency, then strain and sweeten, drink a few time a day until period shows up. You can combine different progesterone blocking, uterine contracting and oestrogenic herbs, or try different methods. To help take vitamin C to starve the uterus of progesterone, choose a brand with fewer ingredients as bioflavinoids are added to vitamin C to protect against miscarriage. Dosage is 6-12 grams per day, divide this equally to take throughout the day with plenty of water. You can find more information about this here http://www.sisterzeus.com
