How do I fix my Bass Drum Pedal?

I just got new drums and the bass drum pedal keeps sliding down. Even when I position it and tighten it, I play it and 5 minutes later it slides down into the hole. Because of this, I always try to tighten it super tight, but it always ends up untight and slides down. Is it defective or am I just using it wrong?
the company in which it was made is Black Hawk.
also, the thing I mean is sliding down is the actual mallet (or beater).

It does sound a little defective. But it's an easy fix.
Take out the screw and put a bit of fingernail polish on the threads. This might chip and break though. There is also this special type of glue for vibrating parts (my bass guitar or a Harley). You'll probably want the blue kind, not red. The red is too strong and you won't be able to adjust it later.
