What is the proper order of the Dark Tower series and related books?

The Dark Tower series has tie-ins with several other Stephen King novels. What is the complete list and what order should those books combined with the Dark Tower series itself be read?

I read the Dark Tower without reading a lot of previous King (I read the Stand, It, and a few others beforehand). However, I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. Sure, there are some references to previous books, and reading those books first may enhance it a bit, but there are a LOT of references.

My recommendation is to read "The Stand", "It" and "Salems Lot" before The Dark Tower. Not totally necessary, but looking back, I think Salem's Lot would have made the later books better.

But again, you really don't have to read any if you don't want to.
