Spray paint or regular wipe-on paint to re-paint a drum set & what grit sand paper?

Ok, so i'm re-painting my drum kit, and idk if it's better to use spray paint or wipe on paint. I want it to look really shiny and glossy like a professional did it or like shine or truth custom drums. Idk which on is better for this. So, if someone could tell me which one is better and what company/brand of paint is better, what kind of finish (gloss, satin, metallic, flat, matte, etc.) and also, what grit sand paper to use to sand my shells.

Prep will depend a lot on the paint you choose and the paint or finish on the drums now.

If you want a quality paint and look though, consider an automotive paint. An automotive paint supplier can put the color(s) of your choice into spray cans that tend to have a better quality nozzle that the hardware store variety.

If the finish is compatable with the paint, all you may need is to rough the surface with a plastic scratch-pad (like those used for doing dishes, but without the sponge). Otherwise, you might have to strip the old paint, and prime before the new paint goes on. The dealer can help with prep needs.
