Snare drum question. I give best to the cruddiest answer cause im a nice guy!!?
I am confused. People are telling all these ways to tighten the heads. I want a nice snap and crack to my snare drum. A nice standard rock sound. I know that you should tighten using the star sequence and that mufflers are available like RemOs but I dont know how to tighten right. To get that standard rock snare drum sound how should the drum be tightened? Should I have the bottom tighter than the top or opposite, or the same? And do you think a small hole on the bottom of my snare drum head, (about 1/4 of an inches wide) will affect the sound. If someone could just please show me how to get the sound I requested and maybe share some other thoughts on how to make even the crappiest snare drum sound like a professional's, I'd love to reward you with points for Best Answer. The best way to tune your snare drum for rock, and this is what I do. You want your actual tuning of both the top and bottom heads fairly tight, the bottom just a little looser, with out the snares set, when ever you feel that it has a good tone tighten the snares fairly tight. The key is to take a paper towel cut in half, then fold it until it is about a 1.5 inch square, then duct or electric tape it to the bottom head. Thats what I do and I really like the sound.
