How can I become a better snare drum player?

I live in St. Louis and around here, we don't play like Drum Corps and such, we are more like hip-hop bands and I can't stand the fact that they play like that. So how can I, myself, become more skilled like DCI Corps? By the way, I am a senior in high school and I'm definitely looking forward to playing snare in college and I also want to know if there is some kind of camp that I can attend that will improve my skills as a drummer.

My teacher is Paul Loos. He has been the tenor tech at carolina crown for a few years and he is going to be running North Coast Academy this winter. Paul has taught me the best ways to practice. Here are some tips:
1) ALWAYS practice with a metronome. (Either buy one or use an online one)
2) Work on your rudiments by going slow to fast, staying at fast, then slowing back down
3) Practice everyday for at least an hour

This should be a good start to your practice. Good luck
