Do I have to use only Ludwig accessory parts for my Snare Drum or will any company do?

I need to a new snare throw off switch for my Ludwig Snare drum. Are these universal or do I need to use Ludwig hardware exclusively?

You can get Ludwig strainers for pretty cheap and they're your safest bet fit wise, but there are many other strainers that would fit. You need to know the hole configuration and hole-to-hole distance. The Dunnet R class strainer is a bit expensive, but it has sliding brackets that will accommodate any two vertical holes. It's a solid and adjustable, if heavy choice. They can be found in chrome easily with black or gold models limited to a few drum parts websites. Further upmarket is the top-of-line Trick throw. Special Ludwig-to-Trick brackets are readily available on eBay, figure $80 for the bracket and throw. They can be had in black or brushed aluminum and have both an on/off model and a 3 position model. Also worth a look is the Ludwig p-86 anniversary throw. They are beautiful, unique, and sturdy, but can be hard to find. The chrome version is about as much as a Dunnet($40) and the rarer but classier brass version is about as much as a Trick. If these are too much, go with a Ludwig P-85 or one of its many knockoffs. Note that if your snare has a beaded metal shell (acrolite, supraphonic, etc.), your strainer will need to accommodate the bead. The Dunnet and Trick throws mount flush to the shell leaving no clearance for the bead.
