Zildjian A Custom 18 Crash

Cymbal cleaning problem?

I have a Zildjian A custom 18" crash and i bought it on ebay used. It was just really dirty. The guy said it came with a drumset he just recently bought. And i tried to clean it with some stuff i got from Wal-greens. It's some kind of metal cleanerr for all kinds of metals. it works on my zht's, which have bigger grooves than the A customs. But i started to put it on the custom and rubbed and cleaned for like 30 minutes. it didnt do much at all. I can actually say that it didnt do anything. so then i heard about this stuff called brasso and actually watched a video on youtube where it worked really good on the persons cymbal.. and tried that and it cleaned it a "little". and shined it not that much. it had scratch marks where i had been rubbing. but its almost like the dirt is stained on there. Any help? please? i know A customs can shine but mine just wont. the dirt just stays there no matter what. and i know its not brand new but im sure it could be better than this.

Try a brass cleaner called Mothers or brasso. If it doesn't clean within a minute in a small area, your cymbal has lacquer sprayed over it as a protectant. That being the case, buy a can of lacquer thinner at the hardware, it will remove the lacquer then use the mothers or brasso brass cleaner. The brass cleaner will turn your rag black very fast.

The Hybrid Trash design starts with a cone shaped bell that along with the entire center portion of the cymbal is unlathed and comes with a brilliant finish. As with all other K Custom Hybrid cymbals, the outer area is finished with traditional lathing, but with a very thin taper. It is randomly hammered very heavily throughout with additional "under-hammering" near the outer edge to establish an increased "bend" for the final one inch of the cymbal's bow.
