What's a good set of drums for a beginner?

I'm not talking about those stupid Junior drums. I want to get a set of drums, preferably under $700, and I'm not sure what kind to get. I don't want electric drums, and I want it to have the following:

Snare
Bass Drum
2 Mounted Toms
1 Floor tom
Hi-Hat
Ride Cymbal
Crash Cymbal

On the sets on guitarcenter.com, it usually says "cymbals not included" or something. Also, my friend who plays drums said not to get thin cymbals (I think that's what he said). He also recommended Pearl, Ludwig, and Yamaha. Any suggestions? (I've played a Pearl and a Yamaha before and I liked them both).

There are really 3 beginner drum lines that I recommend to people. These are:

You really couldn't go wrong with any of these, they're all great drum brands. However, I recommend choosing a brand that you would like to follow as you move up with your drumsets. If that's the way you want to think about it, the Pearl Forum is the best choice. Pearl offers some of the finest high-end drum sets in the world (especially the Masterworks Series, which is 100% custom), and you could easily move up to the Vision Series after you get more experienced. So of the three options above, check the prices and see which one you'd like to buy—but personally, I recommend the Pearl Forum Series.

As for cymbals, there is no better brand than Zildjian. Their beginner level cymbals are the best cymbals for the price, and are fantastic for beginners. I would recommend the Zildjian ZBT series:

From there, you can expand with other ZBT cymbals, or upgrade to a higher level cymbal series. Stick with Zildjian though—you will never be disappointed about owning a Zildjian cymbal!
