Snare Drum problems ?.?

I was being a douche bag and decided to try to change my snare (chain on my snare drum) so while i did so i put everything back together, while i did, i turned on the snare and it sounded like it was turned off so than i try to fix it but nothing happened. so then i thought it was the new chain that was all retarded, So i place the old chain. and same problem now i have a snare that sounds like a tom... Any Help Please ?.Oh yeah btw the problem is that when i put the snare on the stand. the chain is pulled down from gravity or whatever.so like the chain isn't attaching to the snare itself.

You just need to take some of the slack out of the snares. Move the snare Throw Off so that the snares are dropped. You need to adjust slack with it in that position, not the "on" or up position. Adjust the snare so it's just a little loose and then engage the throw off. If they are too tight the throw off will not engage all of the way. If that is the case keep loosening the snares until they are correct. There is also an adjustment on the throw off mechanism. Adjust it to it's loosest point so you have the maximum adjustment left to tighten the snares even more. If you aren't sure what you're doing, any music store can fix it in 5 minutes.
