how did african tribes make bongos?

ok i know bongos are cuban but how did back in the past they made thier drums. i know they used wood to make the conical shape but how did they make the drum head. was that wood is well. and how did they stick the drum head on if thier was no drum pegs to pull it down. and if they used animal skin how did they attach it to the top. and what wood was used to make it and how did they carv it all together.

The only all wooden drums I saw were hollowed out tree trunks - partly achieved by burning the wood. Most African drums have skin heads and they are fixed with wooden pegs
