Is this a good drum kit deal?

Pearl Forum Series Drum Kit plus cymbals and hardware. Drum sizes are 12" 13" toms, 22" bass drum and 14" snare. Cymbals are brand new Zildjian Planet Z series; 20" ride, 16" crash & 14" hi-hats.

If not, what or where are some good kits.

Pearl makes a good drum. The only suggestion I have is NOT to buy cymbals in a set, if at all possible. The reason I say that is because cymbals need to sound good together. It's much better to buy them one by one, and try several of the same size, etc to see which one sounds best to you. I used to spend HOURS doing that. Drove the guy at the music store nuts. But I spent a ton of money there, so I guess he didnt mind TOO much.

I'm a K Zildjian man myself. However, one of my favorite cymbals is a Sabian 18" Thin Crash. But like most things, it's a matter of taste. You are definitely doing the right thing buying quality stuff though. If you cant go for the individual cymbals, I'm sure that kit will sound good with the set you are getting.
